SUBJECT:

CONTROL OF HEAVY LOADS (PHASES I AND II) - NUREG-0612 -

V0GTLE 1 AND 2 - DOCKET NOS. 50-424/425 is a draft technical evaluation report (TER) for Vogtle, Units 1 and 2, which was developed based on the applicant's Phase I response to the December 22, 1980 generic letter (NUREG-0612) on " Control of Heavy Loads." is the draft TER for the Phase II responses to NUREG-0612. The draft TERs were prepared by EG&G Idaho, Inc. (EG&G) under a technical assistance contract to the NRC.

The TERs were prepared based on information provided in the applicant's FSAR.

We have reviewed the TERs and concur with their conclu-sions.

Plea::e forward the TERs to the applicant for review and comment. He also request that a conference call be arranged with the applicant after a review period of about six weeks, to resolve open items listed in the draft TERs.

We intend to issue safety evaluation reports for Phases I and II which will be based on the final TERs to be issued by EG&G after resolution of the open items.
