Section 2B - DPRP ALLEGATIONS CONCERNING POWELL VALVES AT THE
SUBJECT:
ZIMMER NUCLEAR PLANT An individual contacted the Senior Resident Inspector's office by telephone on March 10, 1982, and contacted the Project 2B Section Chief by telephone
.J at the Best Western Motel in Cincinnati, Ohio, the evening of March 10, 1982.
The individual would not reveal personal information due to the possibility repercussions due to continuing residence in of recognition and resultant Cincinnati and a number of friends who are still employed with Powell Valve.
The individual stated that his employment with the Powell Valve Co=pany located in Cincinnati, Ohio, consisted of The concerns he expressed included the following items regarding Class 1, 2, and 3 valves manuf actured for the W=. H. Zimmer Nuclear Station.
Valve castings were porous, requiring cultiple repairs to the valve bodies and some repairs may not have been documented.
Use of " white out" on original records with a Xerox copy of the original record made, signed, and dispatched as the original.
The individual stated that he terminated his employment with the Powell Valve Company due to frequent requests by management to falsify and change docu=ents in order to accept and ship unacceptable items to the buyer (Zic:=er).
The individual requested the NRC conduct an " unannounced" inspection of the Powell Plant and contact the following Powell personnel for information concerning Zimmer valves.
