SUBJECT:

HANDLING OF NRs AT ZIMMER BY TEE SRI /RI The recently issued inspection report (50-358/82-02) included the revised method of handling the NRa generated in the QCP. As indicated, the NRs will be provided to the NRC after the licensee review process has been completed (approved disposition). Of course this does not include

" voided" or otherwfoe" cancelled" NRs. These NRs will require NRC

" concurrence" that the data is correctly transposed to revised NRs and that the corrective action appears appropriate.

The NRa generated within the QCP are being entered into a NR-log by the local NRC secretary for tracking purposes from initiation until the NRs are completed and reviewed by the NRC inspection specialists during scheduled inspections. The log and tracking will ensure the NRC review of the NRs during the routine processing by the licensee.

Additionally, the SRI /RI are provided a copy of each NR generated at the facility, including the CC&E and KEI NRs. These NRs are reviewed by the inspectors for subject matter, classification, and adequate disposition.

The NR reviews are documented (number) in the monthly inspection reports a and any discrepancies are documented by NR number with the problem and resolution addressed.

Questions concerning the handling of the NRs at the site by the NRC should be directed to the SRI, PI, or Section Chief.
