Dear Mr. Collins:

River Bend Station Unit 1 N G Docket No. 50-458 r

On February 16, 1982, Gulf States Utilities (GSU) informed Region IV of a deficiency potentially reportable under 10CFR50.55(e). GSU learned from our architect engineer, Stone & Webster, that during a review of the design of recirculation pump Class IE 4KV switchgear to Regulatory Guide 1.63 (to which GSU committed) it was discovered that the sensing current transformers for over current protection were not redundant, as required.

GSU committed to provide a Status Report of the investigation within 30 days. On March 16, 1982, Region IV was informed that the deficiency had been determined by GSU that day to meet the reporting  ;

requirements of 10CFR50.55(e). GSU will provide the information required by Paragraph 50.55(e)(3) by April 15, 1982.

Sincerely,

/ '
