Dear Sir:
In accordance with the requirements of Title 10, Chapter 10.
Code of Federal Regulations, Part 21, Transamerica Delaval Inc., hereby notifies the comission of a potential defect in a cmponent of a DSR Standby Diesel Generator. Were exists a potential probimi with the lube Oil Check Valves, which could result in engine non-availability.
Transamerica Delaval has supplied DSR engines with the potential defect to the following sites:
Utility Site Serial Ntuber Gulf States Utilities River Bend 74039/40 SbOD Rancho Seco 81015/16 he Check Valves are manufactured by Centerline, Inc. , hisa, Oklahmn. W ese Valves are used in the on-engine lubricating oil systmi; one (1) per engine.
At the SMUD, Rancho Seco site, it was recently noted that the liner seat material was deteriorating. Further, that this material was marked "B/25", the manufacturers code for ethylene propylene rubber (EPR). EPR is not suitable for use with petroleum base materials.
We action necessary to correct this potential defect is to change the valve seat material to BUNA N, a suitable material for this application. Wis can be accomplished by replacing the existing valve in the field. 1 A copy of this letter will be sent to all of the sites in para-graph 2 of this letter as indicated by the cc's. l Technical services and any parts or information will be furnished as required, on request, and in accordance with the individual contract.
