i ATTACHMENT 1 j INTERIM REPORT SUPPLY SYSlEM NUCLEAR PROJECT NO. 2 10CFR50.55(e) #1/7 - BULK PURCHASED VALVES Potential Problem Bulk purchased valves have been installed in safety related systems which do not meet the design requirements of the system. Examples of failure to meet design requirements are:

e The vendor drawing for bulk purchased valves RHR-V-155C and RHR-V-708C (B&R file number 215-02-1536) indicates .040 inch corrosion allowance, the system requires .080.

e Valve tag number RCIC-V-47 is shown on isometric RCIC-1480-1 and drawing M-519 as a 600 pound carbon steel spring loaded check valve to Quality Class I, Seismic Category 1, Code group B requirements.

WBG installed a 1500 pound, Code group C, N-stamped valve.

e Valve tag numbers RHR-V-161A and RHR-V-162A #or isometric 851-17, are Borg Warner valves. The drawing for these valves (B&R file number 215-02-1535) indicates Environmental Class B. The location of these valves requires Environmental Class A.

e Valve tag number RHR-V-156C f or isometric RHR-897-15.18, is a Borg Warner valve. The drawing for this valve (B&R file number 215-02-1525) indicates the valve was fabricated to ANSI requirements. The system is ASME Section III Class 2.

Approach To Resolution An extensive evaluation and review program is being conducted to establish the adequacy of the subject purchased items.

A cross reference check is being made comparing the WBG warehouse issue log to part number, serial number, isometric number and requirement of the specification. Further checks are belag made with the "As-Built" walk down information and data, identifying if additional valves are incorrectly installed in safety related systems.

O Interim Report 10CFR50.55(e) #177 - Bulk Purchased Valves Page 2 Status Of Proposed Resolution Borg Warner documentation packages have been scheduled for a complete review to assure compliance to the approved drawing and purchase order requirements.

Engineering is conducting an evaluation to determine whether to accept or reject the status of the valves in question. Valves determined to be unacceptable for the intended service will be replaced.

Reason Why Final Report Will Be Delayed We are awaiting the completion of the review program and an Engineering evaluation on the subject condition. An updated or final report will be issued by 3-8-82.
