Subject SUPPLY SYSTEM NUCLEAR PROJECT NO. 2 P" 10CFR50.55(e) POTENTIALLY REPORTABLE CONDITION #8 PIPE WELD ASME DEFECTS

Reference:

Record of Telephone Conversation No. QA2-80-094, dated March 19, 1980, R.T. Johnson to T.W. Bishop, same subject.

In accordance with provisions of 10CFR50.55(e), your staff was informed by telephone on March 19, 1980 of the subject condition. It concerns small diameter carbon steel piping which had grinding performed on the plain end prior to socket welding for cleaning purposes. This cleaning method resulted in a circumferential reduction in wall thickness.

Ultrasonic examinations were performed upon the pipes. It was determined that the pipe wall thickness was less than specified minimum wall, but was above the Code required thickness, which includes corrosion allowance.

This condition was determined not detrimental to plant safety and, therefore, not reportable under 10CFR50.55(e).  ;
