Dear Sir:

I, Pete V. Cortez, President and owner of the Mi Tierra Cafe & ,

M.T.C., Inc., 218 Produce Row, San Antonio, Texas, 78207, write to you in full support of the South '14xas Project nuclear plant.

Energy, and its sources, has becxane as vital to the 20th century man, as food, water, and shelter. Everything we do; heating our food, taking a bath, settirn thermostats in our hcmes, driving cur cars, watching T.V.;

everything, requires energy, in cne form or another.

As a businessman > I realize that as we continue to use up the dources of energy that we enjoy today, we must also look for new energy sources or replenish those that we take now. It is our respcnsibility today to provide for future energy fc2 cur children and the..generaticns that follow.

How rruch longer will resources frcm which we r.ow derive cur energy last?

Oil, natural gas, and coal scurces are limited, finite, cn our earth, and, l therefore, the_se will be exhausted sooner or later. If energy from the sun can be made to work for us, effectively and efficiently, it could beccme a viable source of energy to us. Methanol, a relatively new sour of energy, ircnically, requires more energy in its production than it delivers. I am positive that other scurces of energy will be discovered, developed, l analyzed, and tested, and perhaps, found to be beneficial for man. However, we do not know how long this will take.

Nuclear energy is cne form of energy that is ready now to meet our needs and demands. It is ready for cur use today, and for future generations.

World resources of nuclear fuel are not distributed evenly throughout, but t they are better distributed than coal. It is a supply of energy, that we, the citizens of San Antcnio have an opportunity to partake in by supEntting and participating in the dev the South Texas Project.

The major isale that persons who oppose nuclear energy and plants constantly argue is that of nuclear waste disposal. I strongly believe that in this day and time, scientists have the knowledge and technology to solve this problem, so that nuclear waste can be disposed of safely and efficiently. I do not feel that we should let this issue stand in the way of developing more nuclear plants. We must continue to progress, to learn from past experiences, and to develop better methods to solve this problen, but we nust not threaten the use. of nuclear energy for fear of something that "might happen." A nuclear accident "might happen.," so the " anti-nuclists" say. I do not believe so, not if we continue to use our technology to dispose of waste and safeguard the plants. That we "may" exhaust our fossil fuel energy sources in this generaticm; this I do believe because it is now a near reality.

As our populations increase and as our standards of living rise, so will our energy consumption. Nucleur energy is a viable and versatile source of energy that is virtually unlimited. Why do we spend our money searching and seeking out the last supplies of fossil fuel energy, and, why do we ocntinue to pay the ever-increasing costs of processing these fuels, when we can share in the developnent of a nuclear plant that will provide limitless energy for our city.

Idet us look to,a positive future. Let us look at the progress we have made, including the efficiency, the safety, the practicality, in developing energy sources in the past. I firmly believe that nuclear energy is the first of our energy sources for the future. We nust support the develognent of this, the South Texts Project nuclear plant. and other nuclear plants, for us and for the futuo Sincerely, Pete V. Cortez President Mi Tierra Cafe & Bakery M.T.C. Inc.
