Docket No. 50-285

Dear Mr. Clark:

The Commission's letter dated March 10, 1981, approved Omaha Public Power District's proposed modifications at the Fort Calhoun Station to resolve the concern of ability to maintain long term core cooling following a LOCA. As discussed on July 21, 1980, by a telephone conversation between Mr. Wagner of your staff and Mr. Hickle of the District, these modifications will be installed during the 1982 re-fueling outage. The modifications were originally planned for the 1981 refueling outage. However, this schedule was delayed for the following reasons:

(1) The District was awaiting Commission approval of our design proposals.

(2) long lead times are required to obtain new equipment.

(3) The modifications will require off-loading of the core to perform hydrostatic testing of the reactor coolant system and the core is scheduled for off-loading during the 1982 outage for inservice inspection.

Sincerely, 1, '[ 'l l v JL/, G l
