This section of the report provides a discussion of the equipnent used during the ISI, supplenentary in formation , and a num:aary of the nondes-tructive examinations perforned.

A. Equipment

1. Manual Ultrasonic Instruments Sonic FT3 Mark I ultrasonic instruments were used for the UT examinations and thickness caut;ing of natorials. They were also used as an aid in determining the :tcoustic characteristics / properties through measurement of transmission and attenuation of ultrasound in naterials.
2. Transducers Various brands , sizea , types, and frequencies of ult.rasonic transducers (nearch units) were used to perforn the exteninations. CerLi-fications for the transducers used for this ISI can be found in Appendix G. For information on the actual transducer used for any specific exuina-tion, consult the data sheets and referenced calibration sheets in the Inservice Exanination Field Data Volumes of the Suilf Final Report.

B. Radiation Exposure Of fundamental concern to all personnel involved in the IS f was the radiation exposure received during the daily exantination activities.

SwRI personnel took the necessary precautions to mininize overall ex-posure, and consequently, received the minimum dosa!;e practicable while perforning the celected examinations. The following listing details the approximate radiation exposure levels associated with the various exanina-tion nreas Area, Exonsure I.evel RPV cnd Closure Head 90 to 400 ra/hr.

Pres surize r 10 to 30 mR/hr.

St.can Generators 30 to 100 na/hr.

Rer,enerative Heat Exchanger 50 to 200 na/hr.

Piping Systens 10 to 100 ift/hr, Valves 30 to 30 mR/hr.

C. _Stra rtry of Ucadestructive Examinations The Sun' nary of Hondestructive Exaninations table provides the results of examinations performed to satisfy the requirements of OPPD': Technical Specifications and the AS3'I;Section XI requiremnts. The wecific areas examined are listed in Table 1 und Table PA in the " Fort Calh nt'l btation Unit No. 3, 10-Year Inservice Examination Plan for Cinns 1, 2, nd 3 Cum-ponent:: . "

In the perfornance of the UT examinations, the dota recording level van eutablished by the applicable UDT procedure.

The tern " o Uecordable" van applied when no indications vere observed gr eater than the recordinc; level tutd no indications were observed between 20 percent, of the D*.C curve and the recording level which were nunpceted by the Level II examiner to be other than geometric in nature.

"Insignificent" was npplied when (1) the amplitude of any in-dication observed van equal to or creater than the recording level, but less th ta 100 percent of the DAC curve, or (2) nonrelevant indicationn, nuch an reflections due to ntanding wr'/es, trapped glycerine, etc., were observed.

" Geometric" indicut, ionn were (1) thoae indications uhich Irrte an tur.plitude equal to or cr eater tir1n 100 percent of t.he DAC curve and have been resolved and documented to be coometric in nature, or (2) in-dicatioun that are less than 100 percent of the DAC curve but were nua-pected by the Level II examinern to be other t.h:ci geomet, ric in nature, and were then resolved and documented to be cecmetric in nat ure.
