UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 Mr. Kevin Walsh Site Vice President NextEra Energy Seabrook, LLC P.O. Box 300 Seabrook, NH 0387 4 December 16, 2013

SUBJECT:

SCHEDULE REVISION FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFEY REVIEW OF THE SEABROOK STATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NOS. ME3959 AND ME4028)

Dear Mr. Walsh:

By [[letter::L-2010-101, Comment (1) of Larry Nicholson, on Behalf of Florida Power & Light Co., on Proposed NUREG-0800, Standard Review Plan for the Review of Safety Analysis Reports for Nuclear Power Plants; Branch Technical Position (BTP) 7-19, Guidance for .|letter dated May 25, 2010]], Next Era Energy Seabrook, LLC (NextEra), submitted an application to renew the operating license for Seabrook Station, Unit 1 (Seabrook), for an additional 20 years. In support of the application and in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (1 0 CFR) Part 51 and 10 CFR Part 54, Next Era also submitted an environmental report for Seabrook. This letter is to inform you of a change in the environmental and safety review schedule for the Seabrook license renewal review.

Regarding the environmental review, in August 2013, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff, NextEra, Friends of the Coast and the New England Coalition reached a settlement agreement regarding resolution of Contention 4D associated with the supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS). As a result of this agreement NRC staff requires additional time to complete its analysis for inclusion in the final SEIS.

The safety review schedule is being revised because the NRC staff is including a second Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) Subcommittee meeting to discuss the NRC staff's review of the Seabrook revised plant-specific Alkali-Silica Reaction Monitoring Program which NextEra supplemented by letter dated September 13, 2013.

Enclosed is the NRC staff's revised environmental and safety review schedule for the Seabrook license renewal application. The schedule has been updated to reflect a change in the date of issuance for the final SEIS and the addition of an ACRS subcommittee meeting.

If you have any questions on this revised schedule, please contact the NRC's environmental project manager, Ms. Lois James, at 301-415-3306 or by e-mail at lois.james@nrc.gov or the safety project manager, at 301-415-1427 or by e-mail at Richard.Piasse@nrc.gov.
