OF MEETING HELD ON MARCH 30, 2005, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION (NRC) STAFF AND THE CONSTELLATION ENERGY GROUP INC. REPRESENTATIVES TO DISCUSS THE STATUS OF THEIR RECOVERY EFFORT FOR THE NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NOS. MC3272 AND MC3273)

A public meeting was held on March 30, 2005, in Rockville, Maryland for representatives of Constellation Energy Group Inc., (CEG or the applicant) to discuss the status of the applicants recovery effort for the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, (NMP1 and NMP2) license renewal application (LRA). The applicant has requested a 90-day grace period to perform a quality recovery effort for the NMP1 and NMP2 LRA by their letter dated March 3, 2005 (ADAMS Accession No. ML050680270). The NRC staff acknowledged CEGs request by letter dated March 7, 2005 (ADAMS Accession No. ML050660147).

At the March 30, 2005, meeting, the applicant described their recovery activities which include, among others, a direct involvement of CEG Senior Management in the project, more significant resources has been provided for the project, initiating effort to change their culture of minimum compliance, enhancing organizations and peoples accountability, continuous quality assessment, and improving both internal and external communications. CEG plans to provide progress of their recovery effort in future meetings with the NRC staff. CEG stated at the meeting that they plan to complete the update of the NMP license renewal application by mid-July 2005. The list of attendees is provided in Enclosure 1, and the meeting agenda is provided in Enclosure 2. A meeting handout can be viewed through the Agencywide Documents Access and Management Systems (ADAMS) using Accession No. ML050940119.
