Enclosure 1 PG&E Letter DCL-04-027 FEBRUARY 2004, OPERATION SUMMARIES DIABLO CANYON POWER PLANT UNITS I AND 2 Summary of Unit 1 Operation Unit 1 began the month in Mode 1 (Power Operation) at approximately 100 percent power. For several months, operators have been monitoring a slow degradation in the performance of the main generator stator core cooling water (SCCW) system as indicated by reduced flow and rising differential temperature across the stator coil. On February 23, 2004, operators ramped to approximately 80 percent power due to limits on minimum differential between main generator SCCW and hydrogen cooling gas pressures. After reducing power, on February 25, 2004, operators commenced a planned ramp to approximately 23 percent power in response to a storm forecast predicting high ocean swells. On February 27, 2004, after the high swell warning was terminated, operators ramped to approximately 85 percent power. Unit 1 remained at that power level for the remainder of the month due to the projected degradation of stator coil cooling flow and differential temperatures.

Summary of Unit 2 Operation Unit 2 began the month in Mode 1, at approximately 100 percent power. On February 25, 2004, operators commenced a planned ramp to approximately 24 percent power due to a storm forecast predicting high ocean swells. After the high swell warning was terminated, on February 27, 2004, operators commenced ramping to approximately 100 percent power. Unit 2 remained at approximately 100 percent power for the remainder of the month.

Actuations of Pressurizer Safety or Power-Operated Relief Valves There were no challenges to the pressurizer power-operated relief valves, pressurizer safety valves, or steam generator safety valves.
