Other Personnel

  • J. Harrison, NRC Resident Inspector The inspector also contorted and interviewed other licensee and contractor personnel.
  • Denotes those attending the exit meeting.

Functional or Program Areas Inspected 1. Observation of Installed Safety Related Piping Part of the component cooling, the auxilliary feed, containment spray, and the essential service piping have already been installed.

All the piping ends on elevation 330' were capped except for one essential service pipe line, No. 2SX13A-36-39, and the penetration pipe on the wall separating Unit No. 1 and Unit No. 2.

A licensee representative, (QA Engineer), assured the inspector that a report will be written up to correct the problem. Generally, the preserva-tion and storage requirements for safety related piping appears adequate. The housekeeping is satisfactory.

2. Observation of Laydown Areas and Storage Warehouses The inspector noted that at the Cherne Company receiving area for welding rods, one rod oven equipment No. 11402 contained dessicants and was overdue for calibration. Review of the Rod Oven Logbook at their site main office indicated this particular oven is not for welding rod use; however, the oven is provided with a calibration sticker and w,s not marked to indicate its use other than for baking welding rods. The licensee agreed to take out the calibration sticker and identify the oven for dessicant use only.

Generally, storage requirements and handling of safety related piping was observed. Stainless steel pipe was wrapped, capped on ends, and-2-

b flagged or tagged for identification. Uncapped carbon steel pipe for the essential se vice lines was noted. The licensee is aware of the

findings and the problems have been documented on previous NRC reports.

The laydown areas appear to be adequate, well drained to prevent flooding, items are put on pallets, tagged and/or segregated and flagged for identification.

I Exit Interview The inspector met with licensee representatives (denoted under Persons Contacted paragraph) on April 3, 1980. The inspector summarized the scope and findings of the inspection. The licensee acknowledged the findings as reported.
