Dear Nr.Martin:

Subject: NRC INSPECTION AT HNP-2 INSPECTION REPORT 87-19Reference:

Letter, JB Martin to GC Sorensen, same subject, dated December 18, 1987 The referenced letter transmitted to the Supply System the results of the Safety System Functional Inspection (SSFI)conducted by members of your staff and others on August 3 through 28, 1987.The inspection report identified the objective of the SSFI as being"to assess the operational readiness of selected safety systems to function under all operational and analyzed accident conditions." l<e note that the inspecti on di d not i denti fy any def i ci enci es whi ch woul d prevent the reviewed systems from performing their intended function. However, the inspection did identify several defi ciencies of lesser significance which we are taking steps to correct. The Supply System takes seriously its commitment to operational excellence and is in the process of establishing programs to correct the deficiencies identified in the SSFI.A detailed discussion of the corrective actions to be taken will be included in our response to the inspection report. As agreed with members of your staff, we will respond to the inspection report by February 5, 1988.Very truly your s, G.C.Sorensen, Manager Regulatory Programs 87l22 88PllSPP9<
