PE10fANENT CORRICTION TO THE DEFECTIVE DECAY BEAT ISOLATION
VALVE DH-V1 AT TMI-1 During a review of past inspection reports (50-289/77-05,14 and.9) the subject valve was noted. The licensee had made a temporary fix of the valve by using "Furmanite".- The inspection reports indicated closure of this item with the understanding that a permanent corrective action would b3 taken during the 1978 refueling outage.
It was understood that either parts would be replaced or a suitable valve replacement would be

I Discussions'with Mr. Haverkamp indicate that the Furmanite fix is still in place.

thct the Furmanite fix was to be considerad a temporary fix.
It is my recommendation that the licensee (THI-1) be requested to make a p:rmanent mechanical fix of this valve before returning to operation.
It is further recommended that samples of Furmanite inplace be analyzed for recidual chloride content and that metalic samples be analyzai for effects.
