Nondestructive Examination of Selected Pipe Welds NRC Region I personnel met with representatives of the Metropolitan Edison Ce=pany at the TMI-2 site on May 4 and 11-12, 1977. These meetings were requested by the NRC Region I personnel to discuss the forthcoming nondestructive examinations of selected pipe welds at TMI-2 by NRC contractor personnel.
The NRC Region I personnel stated that the pipe weld exmminations are being performed as part of the inspection program of the NRC Office of Inspection and Enforcement. Thirty welds in Class I piping systems and ten welds in Class II piping systems will be examined in accordance with the pres 2rvice examination requirements set forth in Section XI of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Winter 1971 Addenda.
The examinations will be performed by personnel frem Material Consultants International, Inc., under the direction of a NRC Region I inspector.
The NRC personnel selected the welds to be examined.
A tentative schedule was established with the examinations to start following completion of the licensee's hydrostatic test of the reactor coolant pressure boundary on or about June 15, 1977. Examinatiens not completed prior to the start of the licensee's hot functional test will be postponed and performed after the test.
A report on the results of the nondestructive examinations will be documented in a NRC Office of Inspection and Enforcement Inspection Report. This report will be. forwarded to the licensee and placed in the NRC's Public Document Roem in accordance with current NRC practices.
