Summary of Meeting Held on November 30, 1979 Representative of Duke Power Company ret with Region II staff personnel in Atlanta, Georgia at the NRC Region II office, to discuss current areas of concern. The meeting was held at the request of NRC.
Areas discussed included enforcement history and trends, licensee reported e' rents, significant operational events, procedural errors and administrative controls. Special concern was expressed regarding adherence to procedures and the number of radioactive waste spills and procedural errors that hace occurred in the past several months. The view was expressed that strict adherence to operational precedures would has. prevented a number of errors from occurring.
DPC representatives acknowledged the areas of concern and stated that a corrective action program is underway. The results of the special audit, requested by NRC in a letter to DPC, dated October 25, 1979, were presented

In general, it appears that failure to follow procedures or inadequate procedures were the most common factors contributing to the events.

-2-Following a question and answer discussion period the Deputy Director summarized the meeting.
He emphasized the need to develop management controls to reduce personnel errors and inadvertent waste releases. These areas will continue to be inspected to determine the effectiveness of the corrective action program planned by DPC.
