Subject:

Generic Letter 89-10: Summary of Schedule Commitments in Generic Letter 89-10 [ Reference (b)], the NRC requested licensees to establish a program to ensure the operability of all safety-related motor-operated valves (MOVs) under design basis conditions. The generic letter also recommended that each licensee complete all design basis reviews, analyses, verifications, tests and inspections within 5 years or three refueling outages from the date of the letter.

In Reference (c), Vermont Yankee provided a summary of the status of the Vermont Yankee 89-10 related activities as of February 1993 and a schedule for the completion of remaining activities. This status and schedule was presented to mer ibers of your staff at a May 1993 meeting. The purpose of this letter is to provide i an updated status and schedule for completion of the remaining MOV activities.

With the exception of enhancing Post Maintenance Testing requirements and establishing a MOV Trending Program, all items provided in Reference (c) have been completed or are on schedule. As of July 1,1993, all other procedures were developed or revised as necessary to formalize the details of the MOV maintenance program.

A revised post maintenance testing (PMT) procedure has been drafted and is )

presently under review. This procedure revision will formalize current MOV PMT  ;

practices and will be completed by November 1993.

Vermont Yankee plans to integrate the MOV Trending Program process into an overall plant equipment trending program. This program will utilize the existing data collection and analysis capabilities of the Vermont Yankee computerized maintenance planning system. It is expected that these tasks will be completed by June 1994.  !

The above information has been discussed with the Vermont Yankee Senior Resident lospector and with Mr. P.K. Eapen of your Region 1 Office during a telephone conversation on July 29,1993. ,
