Subject:

Vermont Yankee Supplemental Response to Request for Information Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.54(f) Regarding Adequacy and Availability of Design Bases Information In Reference (b) the NRC requested information regarding the adequacy and availability of design bases information. Among the information requested, the NRC asked Vermont Yankee to provide, if design review or reconstitution programs are being conducted, a description of the review program, including identification of Systems, Structures, and Components (SSCs) ,

and plant-level design attributes, and the review program implementation schedule. In Reference (c), Vermont Yankee provided the requested information, including a detailed description of our on-going Design Basis Document (DBD) Program. However, as noted in Reference (d), NRC has requested information on our implementation schedule. The purpose of this letter is to respond to that request.

Vermont Yankee is currently planning to develop and independently review 23 DBDs by the end of 1997. As described in Reference (c), each DBD will be issued once it has been '

approved. Validation of the DBDs will be performed after they are issued. The intent of the DBD validation is to provide reasonable assurance that design basis information is consistently kO

?

reflected in both the physical plant and in documents used to support plant operation (e.g.

operating, surveillance, test and emergency operating procedures). The validation process for all 23 DBDs is scheduled to be completed by October 1998.  %/g"t 9703190052 970311 DR ADOCK 050002 1 180124 uppappppppy
