Dear Ms. Innes:

TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY (TVA)-SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT (SQN)-TMSP PERMIT NO. TNR050015, SECTOR 0- EXCEEDANCE OF BENCHMARK MONITORING REQUIREMENT This letter serves as the 30- and 60-day notification of an exceedance of the benchmark monitoring requirement for total recoverable iron. Storm Water Outfall 6 was sampled during a qualifying event on March 7, 2017, resulting in an iron value of 5.820, which exceeds the benchmark value of 5.0.

The analytical results are summarized in the table below.

Table 1. Total Recoverable Iron Results Sample Storm Water Analytical Benchmark Sample Analysis Outfall Results Monitoring Date Received Number (mg/L) Requirement (mg/L)

Date 6 3/7/17 3/15/17 5.8 5 30-Day Requirement Per the permit requirement, the area surrounding Outfall 6 was inspected to determine the likely cause of the exceedance .. Upon examination, it is believed that the cause of the exceedance is possibly due to 55-gallon drums stored in the Empty Drum Storage Area located near the flow path of the outfall.

60-Day Requirement The SWPPP has been reviewed for any changes to Drainage Area 4, which includes Outfall 6. The Empty Drum Yard Storage area will be added to Drainage Area 4 as an area for potential iron run-off. The use of heavy metal adsorbent socks along the flow path to Outfall 6 will be added to the BMPs for that area. Modifications to the SWPPP will be completed by May 5, 2017. Please contact Millicent Garland by email at mrmoore@tva.gov or by phone at (423) 843-6714.
