l DISCUSSION: l Subrnittal of a new NAC cask design for storage of consolidated spent fuel was discussed in conjunction with the submittal of an ar.endment to VEPCO's Part 72 ,

license for dry cask storage at its Surry Power Station site. VEPC0 intends '

l to consolidate spent fuel in its Surry pool and store that fuel in the new NAC cask. Consolidated fuel will not remain in the Surry pool nor will storage capacity limits be increased for either pool storage or dry cask storage at the Surry site.

Submittal of the topical report for the NAC cask design is expected in October-November 1987. Submittal of the VEPC0 amendment to its Part 72 license is expected in November-December 1987.

• VEPC0 has contracted with Corbustion Engineering, Inc., (CE) to consolidate spent fuel in the Surry pool for one cask. Consolidation and storage of consolidated spent fuel for more than one cask is not now planned by VEPCO.

Consolidation is to be perforned in 1988. VEPC0 will subsequently evaluate the option of further consolidated fuel storage.
