Dear Mr. Zech:

Regarding your hearings on a new rule that would not require state and local cooperation prior to the licens-ing of nuclear power plants, I heartily concur.

In the case of Shoreham, on Long Island, New York State and Suffolk County approved construction of the plant, well knowing the problems they now cite. After construction at an expense of billions of dollars which will ultimately be paid by the ratepayers and/or taxpayers and is increas-ing each month that it is idle, a new set of politicitns fight it for their own political publicity and gain.

Evacuation possibilities were considered prior to the time of approval but are now used as the reason to. prevent Shoreham's opening. Additional electric power is in g:e, iter need daily on Long Island and the Shoreham plant should oc opened as soon as practical. Obviously every safety measure has been reviewed and incorporated in it.

Upon opening of this or any other nuclear plant, refusal of public officials to cooperate and assist in the protection of the citizens of the area should be considered dereliction of duty and they should be removed from office.
