DOCKET NUMBER DD 60 e80 POSED Rul.E OL -

Attn: Docketing and Service Branch 00CKEi u.2 1. 'I U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission M' M '

Wcshington, D.C.

Dear Secretary:

As a Vietnam Era Veteran of the U.S. Navy and a person who has defended the rights of every American to speak their mind and voice their opinions.

I have finally been pushed to the end of my political tolerance.

Although I am not one, who in the past, has been comfortable with responding to opposing viewpoints on issues which are of concern to me as well as my family and friends. The attempted demolition of our energy /

economic future by the Anti-Nuclear Powered Generating Station people has driven me to finally speak out.

Opposing viewpoints I can understand, when that person has a legitimate concern, but for politicians seeking to further their careers and the so-called journalists who print and report on items which will only pick them up more readers / listeners or add to their all important viewer ratings and not follow up on these stories when re-buffed later I have run out of tolernce.

The continued mis-representation of the facts with regard to Nuclear Powered Generating Stations is enough to take the breath away from anyone who has taken the time to study the pros and cons of this very controversial issue.

I have a few points which I can only hope you will take into consideration when making decisions regarding the energy future of this great land;

1. There is quite a difference between Nuclear Powered Gc erating Stations designed to better our lives with little or no environmental impact and Nuclear Weapons designed to destroy our lives, our childrens lives and the world that has been loaned to us. The differences are as dramatic as my own views on these two issues.
2. The truth of the matter is that the Nuclear Energy industry hac contributed safely, efficiently and reliably to the energy needs of this great land for more than twenty-five years and that while accomplishing this the operators / owners of these plants have not only met but surpassed some of the most stringent requirements ever placed on an American industry.

3. The final point I have to make may be the one most overlooked in the past few months. The passing of this past winter brought with it an overwhelmlng defeat of the so called Markey Amendment and in my viewpoint an even more overwhelming vote of confidence by the Congress to the NRC that, they are the experts working directly for the people of this country under the supervision of the Congress, who will administer the licensing and rules which govern Nuclear Generating Stations.

ln closing I strongly urge you to meet this vote of confidence with a final approval of the proposed low-power license rule change and an expeditious resolution to the final licensing of both the Seabrook Plant which is so important to the continued strength of our wonderful state and region and the Shoreham Plant which may some day, if not licensed, be turned into a memorial for politics run-a-much in America and n21 to an industry built on lies or doomed to failure as current opponents would have us all believe.

You have a difficult job, a job very few people would want and a job which I believe has been done conscientiously and to the Lest of your abilities even if it takes longer than I and possibly even you might like. Keep up the good work your efforts do not go unnoticed.

Sincerly,
