NOTE TO: R. Jackson

SUBJECT:

TESTIMONY ON EARTHQUAKE PROBABILITY In our discussions with H. Denton regarding seismic hazard at Maine Yankee, the question was raised on whether Mr. Denton's previous testimony should be revised. To me, the question is one of comoleteness rather than correction. I do not see anything substantially incorrect in the prepared testimony, but it is not up to date with present infoma-tien. There is also the question of whether the newer information gives a different perspective such that the old testimony is now misleading. I do not feel that it is misleading, but agree that it now could be read that way. 3 Bill Russell feels that letters should be sent to the Congress and Committees with updated infomatiori. I agree that this is a good approach.

A copy of Bill's note to Eisenhut dated May 10th is enclosed.

Insofar as your draft is concerned, I suggest that it be modified to re-move the GSB " defensiveness" so that paragraphs can be included in a letter as Bill Russell suggests. It then should state the straight forward facts as they are now understood. When the paragraphs are prepared, i suggest that they be sent to BillMussell. '
