DECOMMISSIONING ACTIVITIES REPORT (PSDAR)

SUBJECT:

PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE DATE & TIME: - Thursday, November 6,1997-7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

LOCATION: Wiscasset Senior High School 1

Wiscasset, Maine PURPOSE: The purpose of this informational meeting is to (1) describe the licensee's L

z planned activities, (2) describe the regulatory process for decommissioning, (3) hear public comments regarding health and safety, and protection of the anvironment during decommissioning, and (4) provide an opportunity for State and local representatives to participate. The licensee, Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company, will discuss their plans to decommission the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Station. The NRC will discuss the PSDAR and the license termination process, and describe the program for future plant oversight.- The public will have an opportunity to comment on the PSDAR and the meeting will be transcribed by a court reporter. _ A detailed agenda is enclosed.

IHURSDAY. NOVEMBER 6.1997 6:30 p.m. to Sign-up lists for members of the public desiring to comment or to obtain a transcript of the meeting. Each person who signs up, depending on the number and time available, will be able to make comments during the l public comment period. Persons who did not sign up will be heard if time is still available.

7:00 p.m. State Senator opens meeting, describes purpose of meeting and briefs attendees on agenda.

7:10 p.m. The licensee outlines decommissioning program for the Maine Yankee facility.

7:40 p.m. NRC discusses the PSOAR and the license termination process, and provides the program for future plant oversight.

8:20 p.m. Public comment period.

' 10:00 p.m. Closing remarks by Chair and adjoumment.
