Carolina Power & Light Company Brunswick Nuclear Plant National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit No. NC0007064

Dear Mr. Atkinson:

In accordance with Part II, E. 9 (b), of the above-referenced NPDES Permit, on August 17,1995 Ms. i Stephanie Petter of the Wilmington Regional Office of the North Carolina Division of Environmental '

Management was notified via telephone by Mr. Ricky Miller of CP&L's Environmental Services Section that a temporary overflow of a lift station had occurred at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant.

On August 17, 1995, facility personnel noted a sewage treatment plant lift station overflowing and immediately secured the discharge. The overflow was due to an electrical failure of the lift station pump.

The area surrounding the lift station and the discharge flow path was subsequently disinfected. j Approximately 40 - 50 gallons overflowed and no wastewater discharged into surface waters. The lift i station was returned to normal operation on the same day. No harm to the environment or human health l was observed during or following the discharges.

If any additional information is needed, please contact Mr. G. B. Baird at (910) 457-2538. i Sincerel ,
