Dear Air. Wakild:

In accordance with the notification requirements of NPDES Permit No.

N C0007064, this is to inform you that Carolina Powe.c & Light Company's (CP&L)

Brunswick Steam Electric Plant operated its circulating water system pumps on Unit No.

2 with less than two fine mesh screens from 16:14 to 22:50 on August 2,1985.

The 2B circulating water pump tripped because the pressure transmitter indicated a high differential pressure aerms the screens. The screens were turned and checked for debris, but no problems were observed. Since no other problems were found with the system, it is believed that the pressure transmitter was the cause of the problem. Ilowever, the pressure transmitter was checked, found to be operable, and returned to service. The screen was then placed back in service and no subsequent problems have been observed.
