Dear Mr. Wakild:
In accordance with the notification requirements of NPDES Permit No.
NC0007064, this is to inform you that Carolina Power & Light Company's (CP&L)
Brunswick Steam Electric Plant operated its circulating water system pumps on Unit No. 2 with less than two fine mesh screens from 03:48 on June 4,1985 to 12:20 on June 5, 1985.
On June 4. the 2D screen stopped turning due to a flooded pressure switch on the screen wash header. This switch became flooded due to a broken spray nozzle in the screen wash system, which was spraying water in the wrong direction. The switch and spray nozzle were repaired and normal operation was resumed on June 5.
