FLOOR TOPPING REINFORCING -

AUXILIARY BUILDING DIESEL AREA NO. 1 AND 2 UNITS SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION On February 20, 1973 it came to our attention-that the concrete floor topping in the diesel area of the auxiliary-building had been placed without the installation of the specified reinforcing. rod. This nonconformance was reported to the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, Directorate of Regulatory-Operations, Region'l on February 20, 1973.

Since concrete floor topping is not intended or designed to be a part of the supporting. structure, it is normally placed over the structural slab without reinforcing on the basis of architectural drawings. - The intended reinforcing,which was an exception to normal practice, was shown on a structural drawing that had been overlooked at the time of concrete placement.

The nonconforming concrete topping, which had been-placed in 'the diesel area, has been removed and will be replaced as specified_with reinforcing rods.

To prevent a recurrence of errors-in the placement-of concrete, all applicable drawings will be ' listed on :the nconcrete placement- sheets . and . reviewed and approved .by . the ; job engineer -

prior to concrete placement. The'. quality control inspectors -u will carry out strict _ surveillance _tofassure implementationiof?
