Dear Mr. Seyfrit:

]

a i River Bend Station Unit 1 j Docket No. 50-458

.

On August 14, 1980, Gulf States Utilities Company verbally j

l notified your staff of a potentially reportable deficiency with regard to an incorrect input in the calculations used to generate

the Amplified Response Spectra (ARS) of the River Bend Station

, reactor building structures. We have begun a detailed review and

! recalculation of the member forces and the ARS due to the hydro-

'

dynamic forces in the suppression pool. Preliminary indications are that none of the concrete structures presently built or released

,

for construction are af fected by the incorrect input. No equipment

!

has yet been installed, and though some equipment may be installed,

' none will be released for use until the calculations and evaluation to verify the ARS are complete.

We will provide you an interim report by December 31, 1980,

'

, and expect to have completed our evaluation by April 1, 1981.

1 Sincerely, 4

'
