Flooding Integrated Assessment Update Flooding Hazard Reevaluation Update Flooding Hazard Reevaluation Submitted 3/12/13 Technical Briefing for FERC and NRC on 3/25/13 FERC & NRC 3rd party review by Tony Wahl pending?

Dam Failure Evaluation Xu & Zhang (2009) - Breaching Parameters for Earth and Rockfill Dams Water levels inundate portions of site but remain below the power block Additional protection/mitigation will be required Local Intense Precipitation HMR-51/52 basis for rain event Higher water levels on site than CLB Additional protection and/or mitigation will be required For Information Only 5

Integrated Assessment Peer Review Process Peer Team to be participatory Peer Team leader observed discussions at Oconee on:

Strategy Scenario parameters ONS FLEX response Peer Team members:

Jeff Wright, PE - Team Lead Steve Kaasalainen, P.Eng Abdy Khanpour, PE For Information Only 6

Flooding Integrated Assessment Update Integrated Assessment Activities Data collection:

Technical design documents Design basis Licensing basis Site walkdown complete including review of 2.3 Walkdown Report Hazard Reevaluation submitted 3-12-13 in review For Information Only 7

Flooding Integrated Assessment Update Initial Integrated Assessment Assumptions Plant Modes - 1 unit in refueling, 2 units 100% power LIP Storm warning time - days for large storm as synthesized by HMR-51,52 based on geographical location of Oconee Duration of Flood Event - will include warning time, flood progression, inundation, units at hot shut down, recession and time to deploy a strategy that is repeatable/renewable Dam Failure Response - will be protection plus mitigation Mitigation will be evaluated using scenario-based approach As year 1 site - New Dam Failure ISG, JLD-ISG-2013-01 will not be used For Information Only 8

Flooding Integrated Assessment Update Integrated Assessment Assumptions In Review IA Scenarios need to mirror the reevaluation scenarios where design basis is exceeded LIP Responses:

Protection Mitigation Combination of protection plus mitigation Ultimate Heat Sink - long term source Preserve additional water as long term source Action to replenish (e.g. mobile pump unit at river to re-supply site)
