Request for Additional Information TAC NO. ME7046 Attachments: ME7046 Callaway AFPB APLA Audit RAIs NFPA 805 LAR.DOCX

By letter dated August 29, 2011, Union Electric, (the Licensee), submitted a license amendment request (LAR) to transition its fire protection licensing basis at the Callaway Plant from Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Section 50.48(b), to 10CFR50.48(c), National Fire Protection Association Standard NFPA 805 (NFPA 805).

The NRC staff has reviewed the information provided by the licensee and also participated in a Callaway site audit from January 23 to January 27, 2012 and has determined that additional information is needed to complete the review. Enclosed is our request for additional information (RAI) for your consideration and response. Please note that review efforts on this task (TAC No. ME7046) are being continued and additional RAI may be forthcoming.

This RAI was discussed with the licensee during the Callaway site audit conducted during the week of January 23 rd. The understanding was that there should be minimal if any further clarification needed between the licensee and the NRC before these were formally sent to the licensee. There is no new information included here that the licensee was not made aware of during the site audit

The RAIs are grouped into 5 technical review areas with a total of 48 RAIs as follows:

Fire Protection Engineering RAIs - 15 Monitoring Program RAIs - 01 Fire Modeling RAIs - 03 Safe Shutdown Analysis RAIs - 06 Probabilistic Risk Assessment - 23

If you have any questions, please forward them to me via email. If you need any additional information concerning this RAI, please contact me.

Should you request additional clarification on the RAI, you can schedule teleconferences by contacting me.
