Dear Mr. Elwood,

By letter dated September 3, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS), Accession No. ML20247J644), Union Electric Company dba Ameren Missouri (the licensee), submitted an exemption request for Callaway Plant, Unit 1. By letter dated September 18, 2020 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20262H112 (not publicly available, withheld under 10 CFR 2.390)), the licensee provided a supplement to this submittal. The proposed exemption from the identified Part 73 requirements will concurrently allow deviation from the associated items in the Callaway Training and Qualification Plan, in regard to continuing training and requalification activities. No exemption is requested for initial training activities/requirements. In the submittal, the licensee requested the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issue its decision on the request by October 1, 2020. The purpose of this email is to inform you that the NRC will not complete its review by October 1, 2020, as a result of your recent communication regarding your revised need date for this approval of prior to October 30, 2020, and to provide you with the NRCs established milestone schedule.

Based on an initial review of the September 3, 2020, application and September 18, 2020 supplement, the NRC staff expects to complete its review on or prior to October 30, 2020. If there are emergent complexities or challenges in our review that would result in a change to the established milestone schedule, the reasons for the changes, along with a revised milestone schedule, will be communicated during routine interactions with the assigned project manager.
