WSES-FSAR-UNIT-3 15.8-115.8ANTICIPATED TRANSIENTS WITHOUT SCRAM (ATWS)

By letter W3P89-1401 dated 7/17/89, LP&L submitted to the NRC a report describing the design and function of the Waterford 3 ATWS mitigating systems

required by 10CFR50.62 (the ATWS Rule). The ATWS mitigating systems consists

of the Diverse Reactor Trip System, the Diverse Turbine Trip, and the Diverse

Emergency Feedwater Actuation System. These systems were installed during the

third refueling outage at Waterford 3. Further discussions describing the

systems are provided in FSAR Section 7.8.

There is no impact on FSAR Chapters 6 and 15 events, analyses and evaluations due to the implementation of the ATWS mitigating systems. These systems are

designed as diverse secondary alternates to existing systems based on common

mode failure in the systems not being assumed by the ATWS Rule, and a single

failure will not cause the Diverse Emergency Feedwater Actuation System to

adversely impact FSAR Chapters 6 and 15 events.
