Dear Mr. Purple:

As you are aware, in our letter, Serial No. 582, Vepco has made a commitment to perform a large load reduction test on Surry Unit No. 2. This letter is to confirm the manner in which we plan to conduct the test, as discussed in the Vepco/NRC meeting of July 9, 1975.

The test will consist of a 12-3-6-3, 100-50-100 per cent power maneuver as shown in the attached Figure 1. Normal constant axial offset control procedures will be followed; however, for the purposes of Technical Specifi-cations, the maneuver will be classified as a physics test. Hot channel factor measurements will be made via quarter core and full core M/D flux mapping to be taken as indicated in Figure 1.

The tentative date for this test has been set for August 2, 1975. An analysis of the test data, including an analytical simulation of the maneuver, will be submitted to you within three months after the test is performed.

Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact us.

Very truly yours, C. M. Stallings Vice President-Power Supply and Production Operations Attachment 779-2 L __
