DPR,..32 Washi_ngton, D. C. 2055*5 DPR-37
Dear Mr. Dicker:
This is in reference to our letter of January 17, 1975, in which we advised of the replacement of certain water temperature monitoring equipment at the Surry _Power Station and to inform you that the Virginia Electric and Power Company has purchased and installed a new monitoring system to comply with the provisions of Technical Specification 4.13.A of the Nonradiological Environmental Monitoring Program of the Surry Nuclear Power Station. This new system has been operational since Apri 1 29, 1975.
Recorders have been installed at locations as indicated on the attached figure to replace the former system which did not produce adequate or reliable data. The equipment has been tested by Vepco at other locations and found to give a data return of better than 95%~ The installed instruments are self contained, battery operated underwater temperature recorders which record the image from a mercury thermometer on 16 mm film. The rate of sampling is one reading per hour with time intervals control led by a Quartz Crysta*l Timer. The output from these instruments is represented on film as an analog/bar graph.
Temperature data points are obtained from the developed film and transferred to magnetic tape programs which produce a printed continuous record of temperature at each sampling point .
. The 11 West i nghouse 11 temperature monitoring system at Surry Power Station has been completely replaced by Envi ronme.ntal Devices Corporation (Endeco) and 11 Aquatemp 11 recording equipment. 11Aquatemp 11 sensors are located at points A3 and E2 on the fig~re. Thes~ provide lntake and discharge tem-perature data to a strip chirt recorder and the station computer. All other locations have been replaced by 11 Endeco 11 temperature monitors.
Very truly yours, ZtJ. ?21. ~t:idr:C.~
