Omaha Public Power District 1623 MARNEY OMANA. NECRASMA 68102 TELEPHONE 536 4000 AREA CODE 402 December 31, 1979 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation ATTN: Mr. Robert W. Reid, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 4 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Comission Washington, D. C. 20555

Reference:

Docket No. 50-285 Gentlemen:

The Omaha Public Power District submitted a response to the Comission's letter of October 30, 1979, wherein it was stated that the Fort Calhoun Station 1980 refueling outage would comence January 14, 1980. This letter is to inform you that the outage will comence approximately four days later, on January 18, 1980. The outage has been postponed to account for a recent forced outage which occurred at the station, during which certain reactor coolant pump seals were replaced. Operation of the station until January 18, 1980, will permit optimum fuel utilization of the Cycle 5 core to be achieved.

It is believed that this revised refueling outage date does not change the conclusions by which the Comission granted scheduling relief for fulfillment of NUREG-0578 or IE Bulletin 79-14 requirements.

Sincerely, W. C. Jones Division Manager Production Operations WCJ/KJM/BJH/lp cc: Mr. K. V. Seyfrit, Director U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region IV Arlington, Texas 76011 LeBoeuf, Lamb, Leiby & MacRae C)/
