Dear Dr. Butts:

The Commission has issued enclosed Amendment No. 8 to Facility Operating License No!

'R 108 for the Dow Chemical Company TRIGA Research Reactor. The amendment consists

of changes to the technical specifications (TS) in response to your submittal of _ January 29,

1998, as supplemented on February 2,1998.

The amendment increases the amount of time from 30 to 60 days that a temporary -

radiation moniter may be used in place of the area monitor.

A copy of the safety evaluation supporting Amendment No. 8 is also enclosed.
