OF MARCH 21, 2012 ANNUAL ASSESSMENT MEETING WITH PPL SUSQUEHANNA, LLC.
On March 21, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted  a public meeting at the Eagle Building in Berwick, PA. The NRC conducted the Annual Assessment Meeting to discuss the NRC's assessment of the safety performance of the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station for 2011.
A notice of the meeting and agenda was issued on March 7, and was posted on the NRC's external (public) web page (ADAMS Accession No. ML12066A064). The NRC slides can be located in ADAMS under Accession Number ML.12089A134. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC website at:  http://nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html. The NRC presented poster boards and slides, met with PPL management, answered questions and listened to statements from members of the public, and was available to discuss its assessment of the safety performance of Susquehanna Units 1 and 2 for the period of January 1 through December 31, 2011, as documented in our letter dated March 1, 2012 (ADAMS Accession No. ML12061A021). The NRC poster boards and slides presented included background on the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP). Additional information relative to the NRC's Annual Assessment Process and the safety performance of Susquehanna Units 1 and 2 can be found on the NRC's web site at:  www.nrc.gov/NRR/OVERSIGHT/ASSESS/index.html. Members of the public, local officials, state officials, and members of the media attended the meeting and were offered the opportunity to question the NRC regarding Susquehanna's performance and the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant operations.
