SUMMARY

OF CONFERENCE CALL WITH DOMINION ENERGY KEWAUNEE, INC., TO DISCUSS THE SEVERE ACCIDENT MITIGATION ALTERNATIVES REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR KEWAUNEE POWER STATION (TAC NO. MD9409)

On January 7, 2009, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and its contractors from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory conducted a conference call (teleconference) with representatives from Dominion Energy Kewaunee, Inc. (DEK) and its contractors from Maracor and TetraTech NUS, to discuss requests for additional information (RAIs) regarding the Kewaunee Power Station (KPS) severe accident mitigation alternatives (SAMA) analysis. The teleconference was useful in clarifying the intent of the staff's SAMA RAIs. A list of teleconference participants is enclosed.

A draft version of the KPS SAMA RAIs was forwarded to DEK for their review prior to the teleconference, and a finalized version of the RAIs was issued following the discussion, on January 8, 2009. The finalized KPS SAMA RAIs are available under ADAMS Accession No. ML083250719. DEK staff and contractors discussed the KPS SAMA RAIs with the staff and contractors and gained clarification regarding specific line items. Clarifications in wording were made to line items 2d, 5f, and 8c; and line items 6c and 6d were combined to form one RAI.

DEK agreed to provide the requested information within the specified 60-day response period from the letter date of January 8, 2009. No staff decisions were made during the teleconference.
