KEWAUNEE POWER STATION - EXEMPTION FROM TITLE 10 OF THE CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS PART 20, APPENDIX G, SECTION III.E (EPID NO. L-2023-LLE-0007)
Dear Amy Hazelhoff:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has granted Kewaunee Solutions, Inc. (KS) the enclosed exemption from the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Part 20, Standards for Protection Against Radiation, Appendix G, Section III.E, for investigating, tracking, and reporting shipments of low-level radioactive waste (LLW) where receipt is not acknowledged by the recipient within 20 days after transfer to the shipper. The exemption extends the receipt acknowledgment period from 20 days to 45 days before KS will have to investigate, trace and report on the status of a LLW shipment being transported from the Kewaunee Power Station to a licensed low-level radioactive waste processing or land disposal facility.
A copy of the exemption is enclosed and will be forwarded to the Office of the Federal Register for publication. In accordance with 10 CFR Section 2.390, Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding, of the NRCs Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records component of NRCs ADAMS. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC website at https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.
