Clinton Power Station Unit 1 Technical Specifications Process Control Program for Solid Radioactive Waste Management

Dear Mr. Butler:

Your letter of April 18, 1985, enclosed the First Draf t Technical Specifications for Clinton Power Station (CPS) Unit 1. Section 6.13 of these technical specifications states that the Process Control Program (PCP) for solid radioactive waste management shall be approved by the Commission prior to implementation. Enclosed for your Staff's review is CPS Procedure No. 1888.00 Revision 1 (Attachment A) which describes the PCP used to ensure that solid radioactive waste activities conform to federal requirements.

In addition, Illinois Power has committed to operate a mobile radioactive waste solidification system in accordance with Associated Technologies, Incorporated (ATI) Topical Report No. AT1-VR-001-P-A, "ATI Volume Reduction and Bitumen Solidification System." In the Commission's Safety Evaluation Report of the ATI system dated April 24, i 1985, the Staff recommended that additional information be submitted when endorsing this report by reference. Attachment.B contains the additional information required for the Staff's review and approval.
