Gentlemen:

As described below, the information provided by SNRC-1537 (reference 1) is fully responsive to the action and reporting requirements of both Generic Letter 88-20 and Generic Letter 88-20, Supplement 1. Thus, no further action is required at this time.

By submitting the updated 100% power PRA for the Shoreham Nuclear .'

Power Station (SNPS), Attachment 1 to SNRC-1537, the request for an Individual Plant Examination (IPE) envisioned by the NRC has-been satisfactorily fulfilled. Additionally, as detailed in Attachment 2 to SNRC-1537, the Long Island Lighting Company (LILCO) has demonstrated for SNPS that the requirements of Generic Letter 88-20 have been met.

LILCO has reviewed Generic Letter 88-20, Supplement 1 which announces the availabili'./ of NUREG-1335, " Individual Plant Examination: Submittel Guidance", and the initiation of the j Individual Plant Examination (IPE)-process. Generic Letter 88-20, Supplement 1 notes that licensees must submit, within Ao0k l sixty (60) days from the date of the Federal Register Notice i I l announcing the availability of NUREG-1335, their proposed 3 I 8910030542 890927 ( l PDR ADOCK 05000322 l P PDC  !

I programs for completing their IPEs. Supplement 1 also notes that the proposed programs should:

1) Identify the method and approach selected for performing the IPE,
2) Describe the method to be used, if it has_not been previously submitted for staff review .(the_ description may be referenced), and
3) Identify the milestones and schedules for performing the IPE and; submitting the results to the NRC.

Again, LILCO submits that SNRC-1537 (reference 1) satisfies the ]
