Dear Dr. Murley:

As required by 10 CFR 50.55 (f) (2) , please be advised that the Quality Assurance Program described in Section 17.2 of Shoreham's FSAR has been revised (Revision 33, September 1984). The revised pages are enclosed.

The changes documented in this revision reflect athe reorganization consolidation and position title changes of LILCO management, of the quality assurance organizations into one department, and the establishment of the Office of Quality Assurance, Safety and Compliance reporting to the LILCO Executive Vice President.

These changes were made in order to reflect modifications made by LILCO management, to consolidate the responsibility for development and implementation of the overall QA Program under one department, and to bring the responsibility for the LILCO Quality Assurance, Safety and Compliance departments and divisions under an independent director reporting to LILCO corporate management.

Please be advised, also, that the changes in Section 17.2 of the FSAR have been reviewed and do not degrade or represent a reduction in the commitment from the previous description of the Quality Assurance Program for Shoreham. The basis for this determination is that the overall impact of these changes is to enhance the independence of the organizations responsible to ensure the safe operation of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station.
