RESPONSE TO NRC REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION i l

VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION FIFTEEN-YEAR TENDON SURVElLLANCE REPORT REQUFST 1: Provide the force and the corresponding elongation at installation and at retensioning for each of the retensioned tendons for the live ,

surveillances performed to date, and the pertinent comparison. '

RESPONSE TO 1: The Reactor Building Post Tensioned Tendon Surveillance Reco:ds and Elongation / Tendon Force comparison data is shown in the following table. This attached table provides the requested data and the pertinent comparison. The elongation at initial stressing is compared with the elongation at retensioning. With the exception of three tendons from the first surveillance and one tendon from the second curveillance, the remaining 23 of the 27 tendons that have been retensioned (and elongations compared) during the first five 14urveillances are within the 5% correlation acceptance criteria.

The percent difference between elongation at retensioning and the original elongation is calculated as follows:

a. Subtract the total elongation (measured at overstress) for the orlginal stressing from the total elongation (measured at overstress) at retensioning;
b. Divide the result of a. by the total elongation (at overstress) for original stressing.

Multiply the result of b. by 100 to calculate %.

SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION FIFTEEN-YEAR TENDON SURVElLLANCE REPORT REQUEST 2: Perform a regression anstlysis for the lift off forces for each of the three groups of tendons. Provide all the lift off force data so that an independent analysis can be performed.

RESPONSE TO 2: Three figures labeled as Figures V 1, D 1. and H 1 provide the regression analyses for the three groups of tendons - vertical, dome, and hoop.

It is noted that the vertica! tendons have been retensioned concurrent with the fourth surveillance. Data for the same three vertical tendons is plotted for both the fourth and the fifth surveillances.

The regression analysis graphs include the individual normalized surveillance tendon liftoff data plotted as individual points versus time.

The three plots demonstrate that the requirement has been met to ensure that the minimum required average tendon force for the vertical, dome, and hoop tendon groups will be available beyond the next scheduled tendon surveillance.

The requested individual surveillance tendon lift off data for each tendon group is provided on the pages following the figures.
