ENCLOSURE 1 NOTICE OF DEVIATION Mississippi Power and Light Company Docket No. 50-416 Grand Gulf License No. NPF-29 The following deviation was identified during a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) inspection conducted on August 9 - September 12, 1986.

In a letter dated February 14, 1986, in response to a deviation in Inspection Report No. 50-416/85-45, the licensee committed to develop general maintenance instructions, to establish the inspection and testing program for the Engineered Safety Features (ESF) room coolers.

Subsequently, as documented in Inspection Report No. 50-416/86-08 dated April 23,1986, the licensee committed to perform the ESF switchgear room cooler tests on a quarterly basis until such time as sufficient data had been collected to determine the correct periodicity.

Contrary to the above, as of August 29, 1986 no quarterly testing of the ESF switchgear room coolers had been accomplished.

Please provide in writing within 30 days of the date of this Notice a description of corrective actions regarding this deviation, actions taken to avoid further deviations, and the dates when these actions were or will be completed.
