SUBJECT:
Beaver Valley Power Station - Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-412 Seismic And Dynamic Qualification Program For Safety Related Equipment Gentlemen:
At the Seismic Qualification Review Team / Pump and Valve Operability Review Team (SQRT/PVORT) premeeting on July 23, 1986, a schedule was establish-ed for the preparation and conduct of the BVPS-Unit 2 NRC SQRT/PV0RT Audit.
In order to support a September 30, 1986 NRC Audit, an updated Master ;cuipment List statusing qualification and installation was required by August {, 1986.
This list would allow the NRC to make their audit equipment selections by August 18,1986, six (6) weeks prior to audit.
During this premeeting, several questions relating to the BVPS-Unit 2 Equipment Master List were discussed.
In response to these questions (Master List Question No's 1 and 2 and FSAR Question No.1) please find enclosed three (3) copies of the updated Seismic Qualification Tracking System's Master Equipment List (SQT-1) and tables listing the active pumps and valves (including sizes, types, etc.).
The updated SQT-1 list indicates the qualfication status to be 93% and the validation on equipment installation to be 73% complete as of August 1,1986. As required for audit a minimum of 85%
of the equipment has been installed.
The validation program is t.
dynamic program which will continue up to audit on a one-to-one basis with the qualification status.

4 SECTION 4 SEISMIC CATEGORY I EQUIPMENT
(N s,,)
Seismic Category I encompasses.those structures, systems, and are designed to remain components that are safety-related and t
functional in the event of a Design Basis Earthquake (DBE).
These are structures, systems and components necessary to ensure:
1.
The integrity of the reactor coolant pressure boundary.
2.
The capability to shut down the reactor and maintain it in a safe shutdown condition.
3.
The capability to prevent or mitigate the consequences of accidents which could result in potential offsite exposures comparable to the guideline exposures of 10CFR100.
Within the context of the SQRT/PVORT, the term ' equipment' refers to those elements of BVPS-2 that constitute a system, exclusive of piping, tanks,
- etc, and is taken to include mechanical components, electrical devices, and their supporting structures.
Besides the generic classifications, mechanical and electrical, equipment is also functionally classified as active or inactive.
As defined in RG 1.48, active components must perform a mechanical motion during the course of accomplishing a system safety function (a relay that changes state, or a valve that a safety-related event).
Active.
