SUBJECT:

Beaver Valley Power Station - Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-412 Seismic And Dynamic Qualification Program For Safety-Related Equipment Gentlemen:

Enclosed are six (6) copies of the Seismic and Dynamic Qualification Program for Safety-Related Equipment for Beaver Valley Power Station Unit 2 (BVPS-2). The Seismic and Dynamic Qualification Progran consists of a Road Map which defines the qualification process for Seismic Category I (safety-related) equipment for BVPS-2. The procedures referenced in the Road Map are the latest approved procedures used to accomplish the qualification process.

The seismic design of BVPS-2 equipment is discussed in detail in BVPS-2 Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) Sections 3.7, 3.8, 3.9, and 3.10 originally docketed on May 18, 1983. Responses to NRC questions 230.1 - 230.5 and 231.1 - 231.5 relating to seismic qualification were submitted in FSAR amendments between December 1983 and May 1985. The information enclosed is in response to SER Confirmatory Issues 12 and 13.

The construction of BVPS-2 is presently 95% complete with receipt of a low power operating license scheduled for April 30, 1987. As required for audit, a minimum of 85% of the Seismic Category I equipment has been installed.

DLC has instituted a verification program to assure the installed condition agrees with the qualified condition. This effort is being performed concurrent with the system turnover schedule. To date, 31% or 1100 items out of a total I of 3535 equipment items have been verified. By July 30, 1986 a minimum of 85%

of the equipment items (3005/3535) will be verified in preparation for the NRC Audit. The status of this program is contained on the enclosed Seismic Quali-fication Tracking System's Equipment Summary List (SQi-1). This list will be ,

updated to indicate the latest equipment status and periodically submitted to I the NRC, to aid in making equipment selections for the audit. l c..p[L*3 '
