October 1998 The reactor operated continuously in October with the following exceptions: four shutdowns for scheduled maintenance and refueling; one unscheduled shutdown.

On October 4, a reactor scram occurred due to the momentary loss of site electrical power, which was verified by the University Power Plant. The reactor was subsequently refueled and returned to normal operation.

Major maintenance items for the month included: replacing the meter relay unit for pressure transmitter 944B (core discharge pressure) per modification package j 98 This was an equivalent replacement necessitated by the unavailability of i replacement parts for the existing unit; physically moving the existing detector drywell for nuclear instrument channel #5 (power range monitor) and installing a new gamma metrics drywell; replacing a nylon bushing in the regulation blade motor / gearbox coupling; repairing and replacing the MHY fuel storage basket.

10/05/98 Replaced meter relay unit for PT 944B.

10/12/98 Refueled - removed core 98-49, loaded core 98-50. 1 Moved NI Channel #5 detector drywell to a new position.

Replaced nylon bushing in the reg. Blade motor / gearbox coupling. .

10/19/98 Refueled - removed core 98-50, loaded core 98-51.

Installed a new gamma metrics drywell.

l 10/26/98 Refueled - removed core 98-51, loaded core 98-52. '

Repaired and replaced the MH-Y fuel storage baskets.  ;
